I'm sending you some photo's from the badmintonclinic which Oscar 
Brandon gave at the centralized training for the junior squad of 
Suriname on Saturday March 13. The training clinic was part of the 
preparations the youngsters were making to defend the colours of 
Suriname at junior tournaments in the Pan Am region. The clinic took 
place at the Pa Lefi Sportshal in Paramaribo.
Oscar Brandon became the Sportsman of the year 1998 in Surinam, after 
winning both the Sao Paolo Cup and Argentina Internationals in mixed 
doubles and the Suriname International in men's singles last year.
He was also a runner-up in Men's Singles at the Argentina International 
98, in Mens Doubles at the South American Badminton Championships 98 in 
Brazil and in Mixed Doubles at the Carebaco Games 1998 at Havanna, Cuba. 
Last year he got the highest ranking ever of a Surinamese badminton 
player. He was at number 62 in the Men's Singles rankings from november 
1998. In 1996 Oscar Brandon participated at the Atlanta Olympic Games 
with a wildcard. This year he is preparing for participation in the Pan 
Am Games at Winnipeg, Canada in July.
The National Junior selection of Suriname is preparing to play at the 
Caribbean Easter Juniors Badminton Tournament from April 1 - 5 at 
Brievengat, Curacao, the Netherlands Antilles. Twelve young players were 
in training from January 30, and last week the trainerscouncil selected 
8 to participate at the Caribbean Easter Tournament 1999.
Two boys and two girls will each participate in the agegroups under 15 
years and under 19 years. The National junior squad of Surinam will this 
year also participate in the Carebaco Games from September 11 - 17, in 
Paramaribo and at the South American Juniors Championships in December 
in Chili.
Meanwhile the National Badminton Circuit 1999 of Suriname has started 
with the 6th Boijmans Junior Tournament on March 14. There are twelve 
badminton tournaments on the calendar of the Surinamese Badminton 
Association which take part in this years National circuit.
