Hoyer-Larsen had to survive seven Hendrawan match points and then had to battle through 10 of his own before finally prevailing over Hendrawan 17-18 17-14 17-16. The title was the fifth Danish Open crown for Hoyer-Larsen, one of the world's top badminton players and the 1995 winner of the prestigious All-England men's singles championship. In the women's singles final, another 1995 All England champion, Lim Xiaoqing, a naturalised Swede, had an easier time. The Chinese-born Lim beat Wang Chen of China, the world junior champion and ranked 10th in the world, 11-6 11-3. In men's doubles, Thomas Lund and Jon Holst-Christensen of Denmark, silver medalists at the 1995 world championships, defeated Rudy Wijaya Tony Gunawan, an upcoming Indonesian pairing, 16-17 15-5 15-6.
