October 16, 1998 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Malaysia'a new men's doubles combination of Cheah Soon Kit and Choong Tan Fook, champions at last week's Dutch Open badminton championships, continued to click early today in second round play at the Danish Open being staged in Vejle. Cheah and Choong upended the third-seeded pair of Zhang Wei and Zhang Jun from China in two stirring and tightly contested games, both of which went into tiebreaks.

The new pairing will have another strong test tonight in the quarterfinals where they will face world champion Chandra Wijaya and his partner for the tournament, Yumono Harmono. Wijaya and Harmono, both from Indonesia, were extended in their second round match by Julian Robertson and Nathan Robertson of England and had to play a third set before emerging the winners.
