Denmark: Danes Sweep Chinese Team

October 9, 1999 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Women's singles world champion Camilla Martin led Team Denmark to a sweep of a visiting Chinese contingent today in a 3-match team contest in Herlev, Denmark. Martin defeated Dai Yun, her finals opponent at the recent world championships, to complete the Danish victory.

In the opening set of her match with Dai, Martin fell behind in the early going 2-5 but recovered to take the game 11-7. She then beat a listless Dai in the second 11-1.

Peter Gade took the men's singles contest. He turned back a half-motivated Sun Jun 15-9 and 15-5. Sun is the current world men's singles champion.

In between the two singles matches, Rikke Olsen and Michael Sogaard beat 1997 world champions (Ms.) Ge Fei and Liu Yong in the mixed doubles contest 15-8 and 15-8.

The China-Denmark team event was a warmup to the Danish Open badminton championships that take place in Vejle this coming week.
