APRIL WORLD RANKINGS April 4, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - In the monthly world rankings issued by the International Badminton Federation late last night, there was little change in the upper echelons of men's singles with Yu Lizhi of China making a most important jump to number 15, following his tournament wins in Sweden and Poland. With those two titles, Yu moved up enough to qualify for the Olympics as the third Chinese entry. Thomas Stuer-Lauridsen, the Danish star who is coming back from an ankle injury, also moved up from 16 to 12. Peter Rasmussen of Denmark was the unlucky and unwitting victim of Yu's Stuer-Lauridsen's climb. Rasmussen moved down to 17 and became ineli- gible for the Olympic qualifying list. In women's singles, Ye Zhaoying of China remains the leader. Bang Soo Hyun of Korea is at number 3 behind Susi Susanti of Indonesia, despite Bang's lop-sided victory over Ye in the All-England finals. In mixed doubles, the pair of Park Joo Bong and Ra Kyung Min from Korea are the cream of the crop, boasting of a 53 average point lead over the number two tandem of Trikus Heryanto and Minarti Timur from Indonesia. The world rankings list follows (top 50 players in singles and top 25 pairs in doubles disciplines are shown).
