ALL DENMARK IN EURO WOMEN'S DOUBLES April 19, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - Denmark demonstrated its strength in women's doubles by placing two pairs in the event finals at the European badminton championships in Herning, Denmark. In semifinal action earlier today, Rikke Olsen and Helene Kirkegaard easily defeated Katrin Schmidt and Kerstin Ubben of Germany 15-6 15-5. Their teammates, Lisbet Stuer-Lauridsen and Marlene Thomsen, had a much more difficult path to the finals as they had to face the world- ranked English pair of Julie Bradbury and Joanne Wright in their semifinal. The first two games of the Danish-English matchup was closely fought with the Danes taking the first 15-12 and the English the second 15-10. In the third game, the powerful play of Stuer-Lauridsen and the left- handed deceptiveness of Thomsen overcame the English defenses and gave the Danes the victory at 15-4.
