ALL DENMARK IN MEN'S DOUBLES April 19, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - Denmark continued to exhibit its strength and dominance of the European badminton scene as two Danish men's doubles pairs booked their way into another all-Denmark final at the European championships in Herning, Denmark. Top-seeds Thomas Lund and Jon Holst-Christensen disposed of the top English combination of Chris Hunt and Simon Archer 15-6 15-10 to take one finals berth. 3/4-seeds Michael Sogaard and Henrik Svarrer scored a mild upset in the other semifinal when they defeated the second-seeded Swedish pair of Peter Axelsson and Par-Gunnar Jonsson. Sogaard and Svarrer managed to contain the power-hitting of the Swedes and beat them 15-8 15-6 with some good defense and shot placement. Danish players have booked three all-Denmark finals - Hoyer-Larsen and Rasmussen in the men's singles, Kirkegaard and Olsen versus Stuer- lauridsen and Thomsen in the women's doubles plus Lund and Holst- Christensen against Sogaard and Svarrer in the men's doubles. In women's singles, Camilla Martin is heavily favored against Marina Yakusheva of Russia. Danes Sogaard and Olsen have already won the mixed doubles title, defeating top-seeds Simon Archer and Julie Bradbury of England in the final played today. With the team event championship and the mixed doubles gold already in hand plus three guaranteed golds in the all-Denmark finals and a heavily-favored Camilla Martin in women's singles, this edition of the European badminton championships is fast turning out to be all-Denmark.
