THOMAS AND UBER CUPS NORTH AMERICAN PAY-TV DEAD April 28, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - LRA Racket Sports of Toronto today indicated that their project to bring the Thomas and Uber Cups finals (the world men's and women's badminton team championships) to North American pay-tv was dead. The sports management company reported that the market surveys that they conducted showed that the project would not be economically viable. LRA management indicated that the best North American badminton enthusiasts could hope for would be for highlights to be shown on the weekly TransWorld Sports and NewSport Journal programs. Transworld Sport is a British-made international sports news review that is shown regularly on the Prime cable network in the United States and on The Sports Network (TSN) in Canada. The NewSport Journal program is on the new cable sports news channel NewSport in the United States. LRA said that they were in contact with the producers of these programs and that there is a good prospect that one or both of them would do a special feature on the Thomas and Uber Cups finals. LRA also indicated that those fans in cities with Chinese or multi- cultural television stations or cable channels should monitor the news programs on these stations as they may be carrying highlights as part of the news items from Hong Kong.
