HOYER-LARSEN "PUNISHED" FOR OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WIN Danish Players Unhappy With Morten Frost August 8, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - Sources close to the Danish national badminton team report that Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen, the men's singles gold medalist at the Atlanta Olympic Games, was "punished" by his teammates for winning the Olympic championship. Hoyer-Larsen's head was shaved by the other members of the Danish team shortly after his victory. The Olympic champion was left with an unusual looking haircut as his teammates relented and stopped the "punishment" after they had shaved only the sides of Hoyer's head down to almost bare skin. The "punishment" was administered as a result of a friendly bet that Hoyer had made with his teammates. Hoyer apparently had bet against himself to win the men's singles gold medal. The same sources also report that many of the current Danish interna- tionalists are very unhappy with Morten Frost's increasing emphasis on funding the up and coming Danish players like Peter Gade and Peter Rasmussen, and reducing funding for veterans like Thomas Lund, Jon Holst-Christensen and others.
