The World Corporate Games are billed as the Olympic Games for business. The Games are held on an annual basis and the Games in Stuttgart are the ninth year for the multi-sport festival. Previous Games were hosted by San Francisco in 1988, Concord (California) in 1989, Hawaii in 1990, Lille (France) in 1991, London in 1992, Kuala Lumpur in 1993, Johannesburg in 1994, and Geneva in 1995. A winter version of the Games was started this year, with the First Winter World Corporate Games being held in the Austrian Alps. The badminton event is being held in Boblingen, a suburb of Stuttgart. More than 300 competitors are expected with strong entries coming from Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Germany and its neighbouring countries, Canada, the United States, and Australia.
