The World Badminton Academy is a two-week intensive training session conducted annually by the badminton federation for high-potential national coaches and players from developing and emerging badminton countries. Top coaches from the world's leading badminton nations share their training secrets with the participants in the academy. This year's academy is currently underway at the German Olympic training facility (Olympiastutzpunkt) in Saarbrucken, Germany with 10 coaches and 36 players from Central and South America, Africa and Europe participating. Next year's academy is planned to be held in two centres, one for the Asia-Pacific countries and a second for African, American and European nations. The Asia-Pacific centre will be the Shanghai Badminton Institute in China. The second centre is still to be selected by the badminton federation. COPYRIGHT 1996 by d.shuttlenws@genie.com.
