FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1996 YEPING UNBEATABLE - WINS FIFTH CONSECUTIVE TRIPLE CROWN AT MID- ATLANTIC BADMINTON CLASSIC. (COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo) -- More than 160 badminton athletes gathered at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania from February 23 - 25 for the Mid-Atlantic Classic, the final USBA Classic event of the season. Again, Zhao Yeping (Gaithersburg, Md.), showed her competitors who's who in U.S. badminton, winning her fifth consecutive triple crown and finishing the 1995-96 USBA Classic Series unbeaten. As usual, Zhao smashed all challengers. In the women's singles final she met top rival, Andrea Andersson (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and breezed through the match 11-5, 11-3. Andersson and Zhao then paired up in women's doubles and crushed Charlotte Ackerman Granby, Conn.) and Liz Wilson (Cos Cob, Conn.) 15-6, 15- 4. Mixed doubles also proved to be an easy match for Zhao and partner, Andy Chong (Miami Lakes, Fla.), as they defeated Andersson and Ronny Oetomo (Marina Del Ray, Calif.) 15-6, 15-8. In men's singles, Andy Chong (Miami Lakes, Fla.) showed Oetomo who's the king of men's singles, defeating the youngster 15-3, 15-6. Men's doubles featured some new faces in the finals as Oetomo and Erwin Suyanto (South Pasadena, Calif.) struggled against Keiron Ng (Miami, Fla.) and Rajesh Patel (Miami, Fla.), but came out on top, winning 11-15, 15-3, 15-8.
