FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 9, 1996 MARCH 27, 1996 DESIGNATED AS NATIONAL BADMINTON DAY = = (COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) -- In conjunction with the commencement of the 56th Yonex U.S. Adult National Badminton Championships March 27, Americans across the country will celebrate National Badminton Day, as stated in "Chase's 1996 Calendar of Events". The day is designed to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of organized badminton competition in the United States. The United States Badminton Association (known as the American Badminton Association until 1978) was founded by Donald Wilbur of Boston, Massachusetts in 1936, and the first National Badminton Championships were held in Chicago, Ill. in 1937.
