-report by Ken Poole, The Glencoe Club The English players prevailed in all their doubles and mixed matches. Both teams went to three games in the mixed doubles. Nathan Robertson and Jo Wright came back from 7-0 down in the third to defeat Middlemiss and Middlemiss 15-9. Jeroen van Dijk was given a scare Canadian youngster, Marlon Samuel. Samuel was up 11-4 in the first but couldn't hold off van Dijk who patiently played his way back into the game. Samuel pulled way ahead in the second game with deep lifts and accurate attacking shots. van Dijk started his comeback again but this time Samuel was able to finish off the game. The third game was van Dijk's who was able to keep Samuel from hitting the winners he was so successful with in the first and second games. Carolien Glebbeek looked like the stomach virus that has been plaguing her since she arrived in Canada was going to get the better of her. Charmaine Reid had no trouble winning the first game 11-0. Reid made several unforced errors in the second however to give Glebbeek the game 11-3. In the third, it looked like Glebbeek was going to pull off an easy win. She got stuck at 10-6 up but was unable to finish off the determined Reid. It took about 9 match points before Glebbeek won 12-11. The men's doubles was very exciting for Canada. The two new combinations of Brent Olynyk and Canadian singles champion Wang Wen and Iain Sydie and Darryl Yung were both victorious in their first tournament matches together. With Mike Beres and Bryan Moody upsetting top seeds Middlemiss and Hogg, Canada was left with three teams in the semi-finals.
