YANG YANG's representative for North America has just informed us that Master YANG YANG, as the former world champion is honorifically referred to, has come through and sent them a FIVE-HOUR videotape of Olympic badminton coverage from all over Asia with clips from Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and the Philippines. (We presume the clips were taken off a satellite). Commentary is mostly in Bihasa, with some clips in Japanese or English. Bronze medal matches in men's singles and doubles and women's singles are on the tape as are the men's singles and doubles, and women's singles and doubles finals. The finals clips except for the men's singles are significantly longer than the Canadian coverage. The men's singles is only slightly longer than the Canadian clip; this was probably because the contestants were Danish and Chinese and not Indonesian or Malaysian. Only the Susanti-Kim women's singles bronze medal match and a mixed doubles quarterfinal (Chen-Peng of China versus Sogaard-Olsen of Denmark) are shown in full. Also on the tape is the last part of the Hoyer-Kusuma men's singles quarterfinal. The mixed doubles final (Kim-Gil versus Park-Ra) is NOT on the tape. We asked about the quality of the video and the response was that the quality varied from clip to clip, depending on where the feed orginated with the worst clip being the Sidek-Arbi men's singles bronze medal match where the color is very faint. The YANG YANG people would like to know if there are people interested in a copy of this tape. Because of its length, they will have to send it to a video duplication house for copies to be made and they will not be able to give it away like the short Canadian hilites tape. So - if there are people interested in a copy, please post a reservation directly to YYNORAM@aol.com. They do not know what the cost will be until they know the number of copies to be made and get a quote from a video duplicator. Best regards. d.shuttlenws@genie.com
