LIM XIAOQING PULLS OUT OF OLYMPICS July 12, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - Lim Xiaoqing of Sweden, the world's number four in women's singles in badminton and the 1994 All-England champion, today announced that she would not be competing in the Atlanta Olympic Games. Lim has had problems with her knee and has had two operations. Her recovery has been slow and she has not played competitively since January. She is reportedly unable to push off the injured knee and is not as mobile as she was before her injury. According to Lim, she did not want to go to Atlanta, knowing that she would not be playing at her best. This is the second Olympic Games that Lim has qualified for and not played in. In 1992, Lim, a former Chinese national team player who moved to Sweden in the aftermath of the Tienanmin Square incident, qualified to play in the Barcelona Olympics as a Swede but she failed to obtain a needed waiver from her former country.
